Volume Up!!! Hear Sandy roar! In the words of William Shakespeare: “Though she be but little, she is fierce!” Meet Sandra a.k.a. Sandy , the mighty daughter of Noris X Hera. (Sandra meaning: "protector of mankind") She is not just the only one, she is the chosen one.
Week 1 Update
Hello DKV Family!
The first week has went very well. Baby girl is getting all the attention from her mama. Hera makes sure that baby girl is by her side at all times. Baby girl has a good appetite and continues to nurse wonderfully. At this age, nothing much is happening. The eyes are sealed close and the ears are sealed close as well. Newborn pups don’t do much other than nursing, pooping, and sleeping… and she’s doing it well. We are so excited watching baby girl progress.
Week 2 Update
Hello DKV Family!
We have made it to week two. This is a very exciting week because there are usually a few milestones that happen this week. First, baby girl has cracked her eyes open. This has to be one of my absolute favorite milestones to witness. It is just so precious when a puppy looks at you for the very first time. If you look closely at the photos below, I was able to catch a few with her eyes cracked.
Another milestone for baby girl is she began to crawl. I used to call my sons “wiggle worms” when they were babies and that comes to mind when I watch this precious baby girl. She wiggles along the floor until she feels her mama.
You would think that baby girl might get lonely without any siblings, but not at all. Her mama, Hera, is absolutely obsessed with her. At this age, puppies still cannot regulate their body temperature on their own, so they have to use mama’s body heat to stay warm. That is not an issue for this baby girl. Hera makes sure her daughter is under her chin or under her arm at all times. She is so in love with her daughter and takes wonderful care of her. Every time we check on Hera, she is licking her baby or snuggling with her baby.
Taking baby girl away from Hera, even for 15 minutes, can be quite a traumatic episode. Hera does not like her baby girl out of sight, and she makes that very clear. Luckily, we were able to keep Hera calm enough to get these photos below, and then we quickly placed her back with mama. I hope you love them!
Week 3 Update
Hello DKV family!
We are now at week three and this baby girl is as sweet as can be. Her eyes are fully opened and baby girl loves to look directly into your eyes when you pick her up. Her ears are also opened, and it’s so cute to watch her react to new sounds. Sometimes when the other pups bark, she was bark also, and it is the cutest thing ever. Of course, I can never seem to catch it on camera.
Mama is still as protective as day one. She keeps baby girl by her side at all times. Mama licks her constantly and keeps her clean. Mama makes sure she is always fed and happy. Mama even just stares at her as she sleeps. I am almost too sad to have to break this duo up. Baby girl might have to go to her new home with Hera, but I am not sure if she will have it any other way.
Here are some photos. Again, I tried to take them as quickly as possible, because Hera is not happy at all. She hates when I take baby girl out of her sight. Isn’t she the cutest puppy ever? Enjoy!
Week 4 Update
Hello DKV Family!
Baby girl is now four weeks old. Can you believe it? Baby girl is very alert and very curious. When she hears something, she stands still for a moment and looks up to see who is walking by. Sometimes she will bark and sometimes she just stares at you. She is too cute.
Baby girl is walking around like a pro. This is the age when puppies are getting their coordination in order, so sometimes she will tip if she tries to go too fast.
Baby girl does not have siblings but that does not stop her from finding things to do. She likes to climb all over her mama. When Hera is laying down, baby girl will climb around her legs, or climb up her mama’s face, or squeeze under her arms. I have even seen her watch her mama’s tail wag and attempt to reach for it, even though he lacked the height and balance to reach it. LOL.
We do keep a few plush toys in the whelping box, which baby girl will occasionally lay next too. However, pups don’t really get into playing with toys until about 6 weeks of age.
Baby girl was introduced to some puppy milkshakes this week, and she seemed to enjoy it. But, with eight nipples all to herself, she is a bit more satisfied with her mama for the moment, unlike our other pups who each can only enjoy one at a time. As she get’s a little older, she will want the puppy food, but for now, she is more than happy.
That’s all for now. I will get some more photos next week. Have a blessed week.
Week 5 Update
Hello DKV family!
We are at week 5. Baby girl is doing amazing. As far as growth and appetite, baby girl is right on point. She is still nursing on mama and she is also eating her softened baby food, which she loves now. Baby girl is being socialized every day and even plays with our other litters daily, to allow her to interact with other pups her age. This is the week when personalities begin to bloom. Baby girl is letting us know what she likes and what she does not like. She was introduced to toys and she is very curious and interacts with each of them. We could not be more satisfied.
Enjoy the photos below. I have to be honest, I think baby girl’s photos do not do her justice, so I had to take a quick video of her. Isn’t she so stinkin cute. Love her!
Happy Father’s Day to all the father’s out there. Hope you all have a blessed weekend. Enjoy!
PS. I had to add one photo with her tongue out… LOL.
Week 6 Update
Hello DKV family!
Can you believe it, only two more weeks before you meet your new baby girl. Oh my goodness, baby girl is really coming out of her shell day by day. I told you that week 6 is when the personality really begins to shine, and hers is shining as bright as the sun! Baby girl is full of spunk and I have nicknamed her my firecracker. Let me explain why…
Mama Hera loves her baby girl more than anything in this world. She has so much fun with her and it’s so silly to watch. They play with each other like nothing you have ever seen before. Mama jumps up and down and gets baby girl all excited. She barks and talks and baby girl does it right back. Mama then squats her head down to baby girl, with her butt up in the air, wagging her tail. When she does that, baby girl gets so excited and hops all around her mama, like she knows she is asking her to play. They both yap and yap and it is so precious. Mama rolls on her back, and baby girl will pounce all over her. Her favorite thing to do is to chase her mama’s tail. Mama Hera has a small bald spot from baby girl chasing it for the past few weeks. They are just too cute together.
As you know, we have been putting baby girl with our other litter (Italian Stallion and Herra) every day. When she is with that litter, she joins in with the play wrestling. She sleeps in the same giant mound when they take naps. She also eats from the same litter bowls at feeding time. We wanted to make sure that she has the same interaction as the rest of the babies. I am just amazed how she knows to play differently with the puppies and with her mama.
Overall, we love our little firecracker. She is confident, brave, curious, playful, and just an awesome pup! Enjoy the photos.
Week 7 Update
Hello DKV family!
Baby girl is doing amazing. She is happy, full of energy, and she loves to play with the other puppies here at DKV. Her curiosity gets her into trouble sometimes because she loves to see what is around every corner.
Yesterday, we left the whelping box door unlocked, and when we returned, baby girl was out and exploring around. We let her play with our other litter (Italian Stallion X Herra) and all of those puppies were still in the whelping box. Only your baby girl hopped out. The funny part is she was just laying on the floor by her mama. I guess she just wanted to give her a visit.
Baby girl loves to wrestle with the other pups, she loves to play with plush toys, and she loves to just run around and be an energetic puppy.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We look forward to meeting you in a few days!
