Welcome to JACK SPARROW and BRENDA’s litter page!
Growth Updates 0-8 Weeks
Delivery Day
Congratulations to DKV Rottweilers, Jack Sparrow and Brenda! Brenda had a long and hard delivery. The puppies were huge and Brenda had to work hard to deliver each one. We are so proud of her to say the least. She is the best mama ever! Brenda delivered 2 males and 7 female Rottweiler puppies. All nine Rottweiler puppies are strong, healthy, and absolutely stunning!
Week 1 Update
Hello DKV family!
Welcome to Jack Sparrow and Brenda’s litter page. This is where I will keep you updated on your puppy’s growth. I will do my best to post each week’s update on Sunday evenings.
Brenda had a long and hard delivery. However, Brenda was a trooper and got every puppy delivered naturally. Immediately after birth, puppies are stimulated and dried up. Umbilical cords are tied and placentas are removed. Then, puppies are encouraged to nurse immediately after.
The first 72 hours are the most critical. Newborn puppies are unable to regulate their body temperatures, so they can be chilled very quickly. As a result, it is important that they are always close to their mama, to keep them warm and healthy. Puppies are also born with their eyes and ears sealed close. This means they cannot see or hear for the first two weeks of life.
During the first week after birth, your breeder Angel pretty much lives with the puppies. He makes sure all puppies are close to mama throughout the entire day. Angel also rotates the puppies to nurse every two hours. This includes through the night. I used to tell people to not call Angel the first week after a litter is born, because he can become grouchy from lack of sleep. However, he never skips a night because he knows how important it is. If a puppy wiggles too far from mama, and does not find their way back while you are sleeping, they can become too cold and fade away in a matter of hours.
That being said, we have made it through the first week and these puppies are champions. Each time Angel would check on the puppies, the majority of them were already nursing. If a puppy starts to squirm too far, Brenda nudges them back with her nose. She is so aware and such an amazing mother.
Right now, all the puppies do is sleep, nurse, sleep, nurse, sleep... If you did not know, puppies are even unable to relieve themselves at this young age. It is up to mama to stimulate each puppy, which Brenda does. In the mornings, when Angel lets Brenda outside to potty, she does her business and runs back in. She does not even want to wander around outside. Like I said, Brenda is a phenomenal mom.
That’s all for now. Enjoy the photos!
Week 2 Update
Hello DKV family!
Your babies are now two weeks old already. They are doing absolutely amazing. Brenda is such a wonderful mother. She makes Angel’s job much easier than normal. Brenda does a great job at keeping her babies close by and warm. The only time she gets up is to eat and to rotate. Otherwise, she stays laying down and is constantly corralling any wandering puppies.
All of the puppies eyes and ears are still sealed closed. This means they still cannot see or hear anything. They should be cracking any day now, since it usually happens right around two weeks of age. That is always an exciting time.
One big change that you will see in the new photos are the puppies tails have been docked. They were docked after the week 1 update. They look so adorable with their docked tails.
Appetites are top notch. Even with 9 puppies, Brenda manages to keep them all fed and satisfied. Brenda has the biggest appetite of all my adult females, so having larger portions just excites her more. All of the babies are chunky and healthy and we could not be more satisfied.
That is about it for this weeks update. Until the puppies eyes open, not much really happens during the first two weeks. All the puppies do is eat and sleep, and that is exactly what we want them to do. They are growing well and they are absolutely gorgeous!
I will have the new set of photos posted tomorrow (Monday). Have a blessed evening everyone! Update: A few of the puppies eyes have cracked last night. Look at the close up photos towards the bottom. Enjoy!
Week 3 Update
Hello DKV family!
We have made it to week three and these babies are so adorable! As you saw from last week photos, a few of the puppy’s eyes began to open that Monday morning. By the end of the following day, all of the puppies eyes were fully opened. That has to be my favorite part of raising puppies. It is just too precious when you finally see each puppy look back at you for the very first time.
Shortly after the eyes opened, the ears opened as well. So far, the babies are fairly quiet since all they care about is eating. If the litter is sleeping and we walk in too loudly and startle one, we may get a baby growl here or there. That’s about it for now. We are in hurry to rush the process. Before we know it, they will all be barking, yapping, and driving us a little crazy, so we will just enjoy the quite for as long as they will provide it.
Appetites are as large as ever. The puppies are still nursing every few hours throughout the entire day. Since Brenda does not have enough nipples for every puppy, we do rotate them during every single feeding. Brenda has the largest appetite of all our females and it seems as if all her babies take after her. LOL. Since they eat so often, Angel decided to introduce our baby milkshake this week. It’s simply ground up kibble soaked and warmed. Well, these babies gummed that bowl to death. They absolutely loved it and it has definitely made them more satisfied after each nursing.
Besides that, the puppies get around pretty well. They are now walking and seem to be extremely curious. We open our back door for Brenda to use the potty, and when she returns, she always just hops into the whelping box so loudly. When the puppies hear her, they all try to rush to her quickly to begin nursing. It’s funny because they are not pros at walking yet, so half of them will crash on their way to her.
For week three, we still have lots of nursing and lots of sleeping. If you don’t know, puppies can sleep 18-20 hours per day. So they really do just wake up to eat and 10 minutes later, they are sleeping again. The only difference this week is their eyes and ears are open and they are now walking. I hope you enjoyed your three week update.
UPDATE: Due to hurricane Idalia, we do have family here for a few more days. As a result, I just ask that you be patient with photos. I plan to either get some photos, or video, in the next day or so. I do not provide photos every week, but I do try to provide something. I will send everyone an email when I get that “something” posted. Thanks for your patience. God bless.
UPDATE: I got some videos for you. In the first video (top left) my son was making some barking sounds and got the whole litter to bark. I was so excited to get this on camera because I never catch babies barking! In the second video (top right) the puppies were getting ready for their baby milkshakes. We put down pee pads to limit the mess from the food since puppies like to step into the bowls. You will be happy to hear that most of them actually peed on the pad first. So, they do actually work. LOL. In the third video (bottom left) and the fourth video (bottom right) they are enjoying their food.
Week 4 Update
Hello, DKV family!
We have made it to week four. Your babies are growing each and every day. Appetites continue to be strong. Right now, they are still primarily on mama’s milk, with a puppy shake mid day. After this week, the puppies will want to eat more softened kibble in between their nursing as they begin to thicken up in week five. But for now, they still prefer mama and that is perfectly normal.
Puppies are becoming more curious this week. Week four is when newborn puppies are able to regulate their own body temperature. As a result, they begin to spread out and sleep, instead of being snuggled close to mama. The puppies are fine with being picked up for a short while. We even notice that they are more curious and want to snoop around every so slightly, when they leave their whelping box. This will definitely increase as the weeks go on.
The puppies are curious when they hear new sounds. If you startle them by accident, they will let you know with their baby barks. As you saw from the video last week, they sure learned how to bark, all at once I might add, when my son started making his crazy sounds. It was hilarious and Angel could not believe it since puppies that young usually don’t make that much noise. They have not done it since, so I am glad I was able to catch it on video. It was adorable but I am glad it did not become a normal daily ritual. LOL
Today I am going to get some individual videos. I thought this would be more fun than photos, so everyone can see all of their adorable features in detail. Enjoy the videos and have a blessed evening.

Week 5 Update
Hello, DKV family!
Your babies are now five weeks old and personalities are beginning to bloom. At this stage, the puppies are becoming more confident. Their curiosity is high and they are beginning to explore more. Toys have recently been introduced. At first, the puppies just looked at the toys like they were little alien invaders in their home. But after a day or two, they began to play with them. Of course, every individual puppy wants the same exact toy at the same time. It does not matter that there are eight other toys in the whelping box. Sounds just like human kiddos.
The puppies are at the stage where they are fine with leaving mamas protection and they are eager for interact with people. When these babies hear us walk by, they all charge to the side of the whelping box and jump up. They all whine to be picked up and loved on.
Your babies are still nursing on mama and they are also eating softened kibble every day. Now that they have a full mouth of razor sharp teeth, Angel will begin giving them hard kibble this week. You usually know they are ready when they begin to steal kibble out of mama’s bowl.
Overall, the puppies are growing well. The six week mark is when you really start to see them plump up when their food intake increases. But for now, we are happy with their over growth, increased confidence, increased curiosity, and overall playfulness.
That’s all for this week. I will grab some photos tomorrow and we will begin our selection process at 6 weeks. Yay! Have a blessed evening everyone!
I thought everyone would get a kick out of these photos. We had the pups outside to get some fresh air. Now tell me Brenda is not the BEST mama ever! Look at her lay on her back to feed her babies. She is such a good girl. Also, if yo are wondering why we lay carpet down on the grass, it’s because we never let puppies touch the ground until they receive their first vaccine. It may seem silly to some, but we take NO chances with our babies. Parvo is too dangerous and we do what is necessary to keep these babies safe.
Week 6 Update
Hello, DKV family!
We made it to week six! This is one of the most important weeks because this is the week where the puppies really begin to show their true personalities. I am happy to announce that so far, all of the babies are very curious, courageous, calm, playful, energetic, they like attention, and they are calm when we pick them up. We do not have any puppies that really stand out at this time. The only one that shows any differences is black male. We call him our observer. When everyone runs up to us, he sits back for a whole two to three seconds to observe first, but then he joins in on the fun. That’s about the only difference that we see so far, but again, this is the week that we learn their differences.
Feeding is going great. Puppies are still on mama and on kibble. This is the week that Angel will begin weaning them off of mama. By the end of this week, your babies will be eating only hard kibble.
As I stated before, I will get new photos this week and we will begin our puppy selections. Usually, we start our puppy selections at the end of week six or beginning of week seven, just after their physicals at the vet. We do this for several reasons. First, it allows us to make sure all puppies are healthy before we start our selection process. Second, it allows enough time for us to see any differences in their personalities. I am not sure what day our vet has scheduled Angel, but I will let y’all know.
After the puppy selections, we will move full speed ahead with all paperwork. This includes the puppies, AKC registration, health records, purchase contracts, and care instructions.
UPDATE: This is Liz. I am the one who does the photos and website updates. I will get a final set of photos for everyone later this week and I will email you all when they are posted online. Right now, I am taking a few days off since I fell and injured myself. I promise I will email everyone when I have the photos online. Thank you.
Week 7 Update
Hello DKV family!
We made it to week seven. These babies are doing wonderfully. They are confident, social, and playful. They are everything you want in a puppy, with the bonus of extremely good looks. The babies have been weaned off of mama and they are now eating only hard kibble. They have great appetites and really enjoy their kibble.
Overall, we are beyond satisfied with this litter. When we pair two dogs, we really try to compliment and level out each parent. This litter is just that. Both Jack Sparrow and Brenda are friendly, social, and playful, and these puppies are exactly the same. There are no pups that are over the top high energy and there are no pups that are super lazy with no motivation. These babies are all showing mid range levels. We have no pups that are bullies or aggressive over the food. We really feel you could put your hand into the whelping box and pick any random puppy, and be one hundred percent satisfied.
Well, we got our final set of photos completed. The babies go to the vet this week. As soon as we have their health results, we will begin our puppy selections!!! Enjoy!
